Be Proactive And Not Reactive

Planning will keep you on course to achieve your goals. Abraham Lincoln said that if he had 60 minutes to cut down a tree, he would spend 40 minutes sharpening the ax then 20 minutes cutting down the tree.
One of the most difficult challenges we face as entrepreneurs is MAKING the time to plan. Working ON our business and not always IN our business is key. It is important to first understand that you are not your business. Realize that your primary purpose of your business is to serve your life. Once you realize this, then you can go to work on your business with the full understanding of why this is important.

If you decide that you are going to franchise your business, you will put yourself in the right frame of mind to begin working on your business and this will help you be proactive instead of reactive. Michael Gerber has some rules for a model that he recommends you to follow.

They are:
1. The model will provide consistent value to your customers, employees, suppliers, and lenders beyond what they expect.
2. The model will be operated by people with the lowest possible level of skill.
3. The model will stand out as a place of impeccable order.
4. All work in the model will be documented in Operations Manuals.
5. The model will provide a uniformly predictable service to the customer.
6. The model will utilize a uniform color, dress and facilities code.

How can your business fulfill each of these rules? As you answer, you will find your plan of action and your proactive approach to growing your business.

It is critical to make the time to work on your business. Create an action plan. Start by spending at least one hour this week working on your business and during that hour, answer how your business addresses each of the rules stated above. Block out the day and time you are going to take to make this happen.

Backwards In High Heels

Ginger Rogers had to do all the fancy dance moves that Fred Astaire did only backwards and in high heels. Fact is, Ginger was on her twentieth film and had an established Broadway career when she and Fred did their first film together and it was only his second film. She choreographed most of the fancy dance moves they did together and yet she earned less than half of what Fred did and he is the one that went down in history as the greatest dancer of all time.

As women, so often we feel like we are living our lives backwards and in high heels. Just as Ginger, we believe we always have to do things better and faster and make sacrifices along the way. Fact is that we can learn to dance gracefully through life, even backwards and in high heels.

Change your shoes. Change your attitude. Change your life. Cheers to making this a better world all while driving the Fun Bus of Life.

Learn to Manage Your Time… Or Your Time Will Manage You

Today’s world demands high performance and reduced costs to face global competition. According to Laura Stack’s book, Leave the Office Early, there are 10 key factors that improve output, lower stress and save time in today’s workplace. These factors can positively impact our personal home life as well.

These Key Factors are:

  1. Preparation- Planning and scheduling
  2. Reduction- time leaks and speed bumps
  3. Order- organization and systems
  4. Discipline- persistence and behavior
  5. Unease- overload and stress
  6. Concentratiom- focus and attentiveness
  7. Time mastery- activity and self management
  8. Information Control- technology and tools
  9. Vitality- physiology and self-care
  10. Equilibrium- balance and boundaries

Each of these areas is critical to managing your time. Is it time to take back control? Don’t become a victim of your environment and make constant excuses about why you need more time. That is an easy answer, but we are here to give you a swift kick in the pants and tell you to start managing your time or it will manage you. The choice is yours.

Don’t Give Up

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will

When the road you’re trudging seems all up hill

When the funds are low, and the debts are high

And you want to smile, but you have to sigh

When care is pressing you down a bit

Rest if you must, but don’t you quit

Life is strange with its twists and turns

And many a failure turns about

When he might have won had he stuck it out

Don’t give up though the pace seems slow

You may succeed with another blow

Success is failure turned inside out

The silver tint of the clouds of doubt

And you never can tell how close you are

It may be near when it seems so far

Stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit

It’s when things seem the worst,

That you must not quit.
